How it is used
Potential difference is the energy transferred per unit charge between two points in a circuit, measured in volts. A voltmeter is connected in parallel, across the part of the circuit being studied, and should draw as little current as possible so that the circuit behaves the same with or without it.
With an LED voltmeter the whole class can read the value from the front of the room. A common exercise is to measure the supply voltage and then the voltage across each lamp or resistor in a series chain, showing that the individual voltage drops add up to the supply voltage, while components in parallel all share the same voltage.
